Dr Zaki is a veterinary anaesthetist, and member by examination of the Australian & New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists, Anaesthesia & Critical Care Chapter. She commenced her academic career in 2002 as a Lecturer in Veterinary Anaesthesia, combining teaching, clinical service and clinical research activities. Her passion for teaching led her to complete a Graduate Certificate in Educational Studies (Higher Education). More recently, she completed her PhD, investigating the mechanisms of osteoarthritis pain.
Dr Zaki is currently Senior Lecturer in Professional Practice and Academic Advisor (Admissions) in the Sydney School of Veterinary Science, at the University of Sydney. She is also an Honorary Associate at the Sydney Medical School. Her teaching interests are diverse and include anaesthesia, pain management, animal welfare, ethics, clinical reasoning and self-care. Her research focus is pain, in particular, unravelling the biomolecular mechanisms that drive chronic pain and exploring ways to optimise translation of preclinical studies.
